Question:
How much weight should I expect to gain during my pregnancy?
Answer:
The amount of weight you gain really depends on your body make up prior to pregnancy. If you don’t gain enough weight during pregnancy your baby could be born at a low birth rate, but if you gain too much you are at risk of gestational diabetes.
Generalized amounts are listed below:
Normal weight before pregnancy – gain between 25-35 pounds
Overweight before pregnancy – gain between 15-25 pounds
Underweight before pregnancy – gain 28-40 pounds.
Multiple births vary from patient to patient and should be discussed with your doctor at Carolina Women’s Physicians.
